Abstract

This study aimed to determine the communication process, barriers that occur as well as solutions done by teachers of Guidance and Counseling (BK) in dealing with disciplinary offenses in students in Al - Islam 1 High School of Surakarta. This research applied descriptive qualitative approach. Informants of this research were BK teachers and students who often did the offenses with purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used in-depth interviews of 2 observation and documentation. The validity of data used triangulation theory and triangulation of data sources. Data analysis techniques used Interactive analysis model of Miles and Huberman. The results of this study indicated that: 1) The process of interpersonal communication conducted by teachers BK against students who often violate the rules of discipline was done by face to face treatment or used other media and it can be said effective. It can be seen from the response of students that are able to understand the advice provided by the teacher. This proved the communication feedback ran well. 2) Obstacles that occur in the implementation of interpersonal communication was the occurrence of psychological barriers, where students tent to be afraid or insecure when they were called by the teacher BK. Fortunately, with the credibility of BK teachers, the barriers could be overcome so well that students felt conscious to behave well and try not to commit any more disciplinary offenses. 3) The solution made by BK teacher to overcome the violation of discipline through interpersonal communication done by the teacher could be well understood by the students. Interpersonal communication done was also able to prevent the students to repeat the action again so as to be able to overcome the problem of discipline violation done by the students. BK Teachers were also able to make students feel more self-conscious and feel safe and comfortable when communicating with teachers.
