Abstract

The study aims to determine the ability of decision making on the math problems based on the cognitive domain of the TIMSS. The study conducted eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Kartasura. Three subjects are taken with math skills categories of high(S1), medium(S2) and low(S3) at class VIII B. Technique of collecting data in this research is the test method, think aloud, and interviews. Validity of data conducted by triangulation technique by comparing the test data, think aloud, and interviews. Technique of analiyzing data is conducted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. In a matter of aspect, knowing S1 and S2 are able to take appropriate decisions. While the S3 is unable to make decisions appropriately. In a matter of aspects, applying S1 is able to make appropriate decisions. While the S2 and S3 are not able to take the appropriate decisions. Viewed by aspects of reasoning, S1 is able to take decisions in solving a given problem, because it meets the stages of ability to make decision. While the S2 and S3 are not able to make the appropriatrly decision because it they failed at the stage of understanding the questions and the subject matter that has not been mastered yet.
