Abstract
Background:Obesity is an increasing problem in Indonesia is often accompanied by hypertension and is closely related to hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance. Obesity can be determined by anthropometric measurements of waist circumference and waist-hip ratio. There is a strong correlation between anthropometric measurements with metabolic disorders. One of them is metabolic disorder which begins with insulin resistance followed with diabetes mellitus occurance. Objective: To study the relationship between waist circumference and waist-hip ratio with fasting blood glucose level. Method: This study is an observational analytical research with cross sectional approach. 73 members of TNI Kodim 0735 Surakarta who had fulfilled the inclusion criteria were chosen as subjects through purposive sampling method. Results: From 73 data of respondents, 27 people had central obesity and increased blood glucose level and 9 people had normal fasting blood glucose level. Respondents who didn’t have central obesity with increased fasting blood glucose level were 18 people and with normal fasting blood glucose level were 19 people. Furthermore, data obtained from 24 people with the measurement of central obesity by WHR with increased blood glucose level and 9 people with normal fasting blood glucose level. There are 21 people had no obesity based on WHR with increased fasting blood glucose level and 17 people had normal fasting blood glucose level. Waist circumference correlation test on fasting blood glucose level obtained p value 0.000 and r value 0.525 mean that there is positive correlation with medium correlation strength. WHR correlation test of fasting blood glucose p value 0.000 and r value 0.445 indicates that the correlation is positive with moderate strength. Conclusion: Waist circumference and RLPP are associated with fasting blood glucose level.
