Abstract

Acne vulgaris is the most common disorder that is seen in adolescents. In Indonesia, the number of acne vulgaris in 2007 reached 80% of cases according to the group of dermatologist and cosmetics Indonesia.Many factors cause acne vulgaris, one of which is a poor facial skin personal hygiene facial skin. Poor facial skin personal hygiene will trigerring the accumulation and proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes which then causing the occurrence of inflammation. The goal from this study is to determine the correlation between facial skin personal hygiene with the rates of occurrence of acne vulgaris in Al-Munawwir Islamic Boarding School Yogyakarta. This study use an observational research design with cross sectional approach.The sample of this study is all male students at 16-19 years old, lived in Al-Munawwir Islamic Boarding School Yogyakarta and suffered an acne vulgaris.Sommers’d corelation test obtained a correlation value (r) is 0,527, which mean there is a relationship between facial skin personal hygiene with the rates of occurrence of acne vulgaris with the level of intermediate correlation (0,4-0,6).There is correlation between facial skin personal hygiene with the rates of occurrence of acne vulgaris.
