Abstract
Chitosan is a cationic nature polymer. The cationic nature makes chitosan can interact with complex anionic polymers. In this research, pectin is used as an anionic polymer which interacts ionically with chitosan. The purpose of this research is to make composite with material that is easy to get and environmentally friendly. Pectin and chitosan solutions were mixed with a 2: 1 ratio; 3: 1; 4: 1 at 70 ° C and 80°C and at extraction times 30, 60, 90 and 120 min. The best condition to produce the composite is the pectin ratio: chitosan = 2:1 at 80°C and 60 minutes extraction time. The characteristic difference of pectin-chitosan composites with the origin polymer is indicated by functional group analysis.
