Abstract

The purpose of this study to find out how the interpersonal communication that occurs between parents with children cerebral palsy in AzzamHouse Karanganyar clinic. To obtain the results of appropriate research, the researcher uses the theory of interpersonal communication patterns of parents (family). This research is descriptive by using qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were parents who had children of cerebral palsy aged over five years at Azzam House Clinic Karanganyar. Data collection techniques were conducted with in-depth interviews and non-participant observation. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Furthermore, to ensure the validity of the data, researchers used data triangulation. Analytical technique used is interactive model.concluded that there are five aspects of interpersonal communication according to De Vito, namely (1) From the perspective of parents an effective openness (openness) is to listen to children. Although the child is only capable of issuing a few words, or simply expressing a desire with shouting or anger, the parent must listen to the child. Because in the attitude of a child like that, there is something to be conveyed by the child. (2) From the point of view of empathy (empathy) parents provide non-verbal empathy forms such as hugs and eye contact so that parents are able to calm the child's emotions and understand what the child wants. (3) From a supportiveness point of view, parents support children when children are unable to do something, and reward each child's outcomes or outcomes. (4) From the point of view of positive attitude (positiveness), parents give praise when the child is able to do something and as a form that parents appreciate the child. (5) From the point of view of equality, the parents place their position on a par with the child, aiming to build a comfortable, harmonious family environment.
