Abstract
The purpose of this research is to describe the difficulties students understand about the concept of triangular and rectangular material on aspect of understanding and aspects of applying. This type of research is based on a qualitative approach to ethnographic design. Research subject were taken from teachers and students of class VII in SMP Negeri 2 Kembang. Research time was in the even semester of 2016/2017. Data collection techniques using test methods, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data is done by triangular of sources and techniques. Data analysis techniques through data reduction, data display, and conclusion.The result of research based on the aspects of understanding and applying aspects obtained the conclusion that students have difficulty in the operation calculate algebraic form, distinguishing various triangles and rectangular, and express an idea. The cause factor is the less variance of triangle and rectangle exercises and the tendency to memorize materials and formulas. A wider understanding of the material can demand better results.
