Abstract

Samin Sub-Watershed Area is located in Karanganyar District and Sukoharjo District Central Java, that has flat until montainous topography with various slope and annual rainfall up to 3879,95 mm/year which possible causes erosion. This research was aimed to analyze and mapping the soil erosion at Samin Sub-Watershed Area based on the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) formula, using remote sensing imagery data, Landsat 8 and by applying Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis, also to analyze dominant factor of the soil erosion at Samin Sub-Watershed Area using stastistic analysis. USLE method were uses five parameters, those were length and slope index from slope maps, rainfall erosivity index from the calculation of erosivity index value, crop management index and land conservation index from image interpretation and field checks, and soil erodibility index from soil maps. An overlay process was done to obtain the final result, the erosion potential rate maps which categorized in five classes: very light, light, medium, heavy, and very heavy. The results showed that the erosion potential rate at Samin sub-watershed area consist five classes, those are very light 20.427,84 hectares wide (59,81%), light 7.700,06 hectares wide (22,55%), moderate 3.546,56 hectares wide (10,38%), heavy 1.738,42 hectares wide (5,09%), and very heavy 737,37 hectares wide (2,16%). Polokarto, Jatiyoso, Jumapolo, Jumantono, Matesih and Tawangmangu Sub-district were sub-district which has medium to very heavy erosion potential rate. Based on statistics analysis, the dominant factor that affect erosion is variable of crop management with regression coefficient value of 882,892 and significance level less than 0,05 which means that variable of crop management has a strong influence on the magnitude of erosion at Samin Sub-Watershed Area. Erosion potential rate mapping will be very helpful in determining good and appropirate land management and conservation in the study area.
