Abstract

Geography of politics in an election emphasizes its discussion scope on regional approach (traditional) and spatial approach (behavior) of people participation in the election. Political parties have very important role and position in every democracy system. The parties play a role of very strategic bridge connecting between governmental process and citizens. It is explained in article 1 of the 1945 Constitution saying “Sovereignty shall be in hand of people and shall be exercised according to the 1945 Constitution.” PDI Perjuangan is one of big political parties in Indonesia with great power and it has been known for its loyalty voters, including in Ngawi Regency, East Java Province. In Election of 1999, the PDI Perjuangan collected 35,689,073 votes nationally, whereas in level of Ngawi Regency it obtained 123,200 (28.98%) votes in 2004, 12,282 (17.78 %) votes in 2009 and 112,120 (33.33 %) votes in 2014. Results of the research indicated that pattern of votes distribution of the PDI Perjuangan was not evenly apportioned between one kecamatan to other, with 12 political parties participated in election of 2014; the PDI Perjuangan obtained 15 seats in Parliament. Factor associated with votes gain of PDI Perjuangan was dominantly economic factor relating to sector of farm with amount of 59.41% of total population. The second influential factor was the distance between kecamatan and Regency headquarters. The more distance and farm sector was main economic support; it was a barn of voters of PDI Perjuangan with greatest distance was 36 km. While, geographic spatial factor was landscape of farming area that was the main economic support of communities.
