Abstract
Herbal mouthwash with raw material betel leaf becomes a solution to overcome the problem of bad breath because it contains phenol that can be useful as a natural antiseptic. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of phenol and organileptic quality (color, flavor, and taste) in mouthwash. This research was conducted during February to August 2017. The method used was experimental method with RAL (Completely Random Design) with factorial pattern. The factor used is the concentration of extract type. Phenol testing was done by Singleton and Rossi method. The betel extract was produced by heating 90C and then squeezed and mixed with lime extract produced by squeeze. The results showed that there was phenol content in all four treatments. The highest phenol content was found in the treatment of S2J2 with the formulation of betel leaf extract as much as 50% and the extract of lemon as much as 30%. Of the four treatments, the most favored by the panelists was the S2J2 treatment. This is because the composition is balanced on the treatment and has the right color, aroma, and taste to be used as a mouthwash
