Abstract
The development of urban settlements in urban areas will continue to increase with increasing population, while the availability of strategic land for settlements is relatively fixed. Therefore the residents in the city use limited land for settlement areas regardless to the quality of their settlement environment. The development of the city that without a direction and the rapid growth of the population caused Bekasi city has problems in the development of settlements, especially slums area that spread evenly in 12 districts. One of the subdistricts that have slum area is West Bekasi which is classified as having high population density that is 14.476 soul/Km2 from large of West Bekasi which only 18.89 Km2. The purpose of this study is to identify the distribution of the slum areas quality and to analyze the most factors that influence the distribution of the slum areas in West Bekasi. The method that used in this study is survey method using quantitative GIS analysis approach, namely the scoring method using 12 parameters to identify the quality distribution of slum areas. The parameters that used are the suitability with spatial plan, building density, building coverage, street condition, drainage condition, building condition, garbage condition, and other variables consideration. Determination of slum level is done by visual interpretation using Quickbird image and field survey which then given the value of each parameter and after that overlay to get map of quality distribution of slums. The result of this study is the map of slum areas quality distribution that is divided into 4 classes namely heavy slums (0.53), medium slums (17.14%), light slums (12.94%), and non slums (69.39%). The villages that have the most slum areas in both heavy slums, medium slums, and light slums class is in Kranji and Bintara Village. In addition, the analysis show the most influencing factors that affecting the distribution of slum areas are the suitability with spatial plan, poor street condition and bad environments with narrow streets of <1.5 meters, limited building coverage (empty space), dense building density, non-permanent building, high population density, high socio-economic potential, and low community support.
