Abstract
This study describes the inculcation of self-reliance and discipline character in single-parent family of children in Tegalrejo Village, Ceper Sub-district, Klaten Regency, Central Java following constraints and solutions. This research is qualitative approach, with data collection technique through interview, observation, and documentation. Data validity is done by triangulation, especially triangulation of data sources and triangulation of data collection techniques. Data analysis is done by applying interactive analysis model through data collection process, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that single parent families have instilled the character of independence in children is proven by the formation of the attitude of children who are able to complete their own tasks, confident and have a sense of responsibility, single parent families already carry out their duties in instilling the character of discipline in children is evidenced by the formation of children's attitude who obey the rules, able to live regularly and responsible for his attitude, t here are obstacles in planting the character of independence in children such as the sense of shy, forgetful of responsibility, and laziness, there are obstacles in planting the character of discipline in children such as no discipline of time, spoiled , and not discipline of time in worship, the solution to overcome the constraints of planting the character of independence in children is to teach the child is not dependent on others, train children get used to store the goods in accordance with the place, and find out things yan g energizes children, solutions to overcome the impetus of disciplined character building in children by avoiding activities or things that can attract children's attention, taking time to communicate, advise and exemplify.
