Abstract

Maleic anhydride plant design (MA) is made from the oxidation of n-butane. The acquirement of capacity is based on import needs, the need for raw materials, and plant’s capacity that has operated. Then the capacity is designed with 22,000 tons/year. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days/year. The plant will be established in areas of MA industrial area, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatera. The process of making MA uses fixed bed multitube reactor by vanadium catalyst phosphorus oxide (VPO). On this reactor, the reaction takes place at a temperature of 390-393,6oC and pressure of 2 atm. Reaction works as non adiabatis, non isothermal and irreversible. N-butane needed is 2,777.23 kg/h, while the oxygen needed is 13,172.88 kg/h. The product of MA is about 2,777.78 kg/hour. Supporting utility, include a provision of steam 40,670.74 kg/hour, is retrieved from the provider of unit boiler of makeup cooling water of 7,662.14 kg/h and for total water needed of the company is about 397,856.28 kg/h. The company management on this plant made is a limited liability company (PT) for the number of employees are 181. This company uses the system structure of line and each staff have their own duties and authorities. The MA plant uses a fixed capital of Rp394,311,452,549 and working capital is Rp314,124,831,535. Economic analysis of the results of this plant makes a profit before tax of Rp RP20,046,655,254 per year yet tax cut by 25% of the profit becomes Rp60,139,965,761 per year. Returning on investment before tax is 19.71% and after tax is 14.78%. Break event point (BEP) is 53.94%. Shut down point (SDP) is 23.28%. Pay out time (POT) before tax is 3.37 year while the POT after tax is 4.04 years. From the results of the economic analysis of the MA plant, it can be conclude that it deserves to be established.
