Abstract

In every lecture activity conducted within the Faculty of Communication and Information UMS, attendance recording for lecturer and students is always carried out which so far is still done manually. Based on observations, this manual system brought difficulty to the officers in conducting attendance recapitulation. This fact motivated the authors to develop an online lecture’s teaching journal inputting system. This system would make the attendance recording process more efficient and facilitate the officers in conducting attendance recapitulation. The system development process followed the stages defined in the prototyping method, namely requirement data collection, quick design building, prototype building, prototype evaluation, prototype revision or improvement, and product engineering. The attendance recording objects was limited to lecturers and students only. The system components include a smartphone or a computer (as the inputting device), campus wifi network (as the communications infrastructure), and a MySQL server (as the database manager). The user interface was developed based on web technologies, which enable the users to choose the inputting device from various platforms.
