Abstract

ABSTRACT The rapid development of smartphone technology make all human activities more easier and make the people especially college students feel anxious if far away from the smartphone or can be called nomophobia. Nomophobia is an anxiety related situation because cell phones, internet, or computer devices are far from their owner’s reach. The purpose of the research is to know the relationship between smartphone using with nomophobia on students. The samples were 91 collage students Faculty of Psychology Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta with using accidental sampling technique sample. The method used in this research is quantitative with measuring instruments of the scale of smartphone using and the scale of nomophobia. Data analysis technique used in this research is product moment correlation from Carl Pearson. Based on the result of data analysis, the correlation coefficient value of 0,626 and significance is 0,000 (p<0,05), there is very significant positive relation between smartphone using and nomophobia. The level of smartphone using and nomophobia on the subject included in the high category. Effective contribution of smartphone using to nomophobia of 39,2%.
