Abstract
The aim of this research is to know the influence of variation of sprue geometry shape to shrinkage defect, porosity defect, hardness and microstructure of specimen. In this study using raw materials for the used aluminum / poles that have been melted. In this research will be studied about some form of sprue, that is square shape, circle and triangle. The casting process used is casting with RCS (Resin Coated Sand) mold. Tests to be conducted are chemical composition test, density test, hardness test and microstructure. The results showed that the chemical composition was found to be the dominant element in aluminum castings, namely Aluminum (Al) 88.92% as main material, and Silicon (Si) 7.62%, Iron (Fe) 1.79%, Zinc ( Zn) 1.23% Copper (Cu) 0.136% of which is influential. So from the existing elements including Aluminum silicon Aluminum alloy (Al-Si). From the result of depreciation testing that the triangle sprue shape has the largest shrinkage average of 2.33%, while for the circle sprue 2.21%, and the smallest average in the square sprue 1.83%.
