Abstract

Background: Dysmenorrhea is a condition that is felt before or at the time of menstruation characterized by pain or cramps in the lower abdomen that arise due to contraction in the myometrial distrimic in the form of pain and not because of a particular disease. Pain can be felt due to a decrease in progesterone and prostaglandin. This dysmenorrhea is affected by the age of menarche is age at the time of the first menstruation. As many as 90% of women in the world experience dysmenorrhea, more than 50% of them experience discomfort during menstruation and 10-20% experience severe discomfort. Objective: To determine whether there is a relationship between age of menarche with primary dysmenorrhea in nursing students S1 class 2015 at Muhammadiyah University Surakarta. Method: This research use cross sectional observational analytic. With the research population of nursing students S1 2015 as many as 120 people. 2 Selection of sample with simple random sampling counted 92 people counted by using formula. Data analysis using chi square. Results: From the results of the study, respondents with 12 years age of menarche (24%) and of all respondents who experienced primary dysmenorrhea are 87 people (94.6%) and not experience primary dysmenorrhea are 5 people (5.4%). Conclusion: There is a correlation between age of menarche with primary dysmenorrhea in nursing students S1 class 2015 at Muhammadiyah University Surakarta (p = 0,041)
