Abstract
Legal event, particularly corruption case involving the state’s high officials, always attracts mass media’s attention. The corruption case always has high news value so that it always becomes the focus of mass media’s attention. Referring to the news coverage in mass media about the determination of former Director of PLN, Dahlan Iskan, as the suspect by Provincial Attorney Office of DKI Jakarta in the putative PLN electricity main guardhouse corruption case, the interesting point to observe is how the Jawa Pos daily, closely related to Dahlan Iskan, presented the news coverage to the readers, recalling that Dahlan Iskan is an important figure growing Jawa Pos and one of Jawa Pos Group’s shareholders. This research studied the construction of Dahlan Iskan news related to the putative electricity main guardhouse corruption case in Jawa Pos daily edition June-August 2015. This study employed a qualitative research with Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis approach. The result of research showed that the construction of Dahlan Iskan news related to the putative electricity main guardhouse corruption case in Jawa Pos daily edition June-August 2015 indicated its partiality and defense for Dahlan Iskan. The news coverage about the determination of Dahlan Iskan as the corruption suspect was constructed positively in Jawa Pos representing Dahlan Iskan as not-guilty person, not committing corruption, and facing the attorney’s arbitrary behavior. It is not in line with Dahlan Iskan’s statement, in his press conference, that did not make Jawa Pos as the defense funnel because of the position of Dahlan Iskan as the shareholder in Jawa Pos Group.
