Abstract

The research aimed to classify the types of impoliteness and gender differences influence the accuracy of using impoliteness in utterances that used by the characters of Ted movie. This research is a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research are the utterances excerpted of conversation which are produced by all the characters with containing impoliteness strategy in Ted movie. All the data of impoliteness work used by the characters of the movie is analyzed using impoliteness strategies proposed by Culpeper (1996). The result of the study found 119 data containing of four types of impoliteness there are bald on record, positive impoliteness, negative impoliteness, and sarcasm or mock politeness. Withhold politeness strategy is excluded. Gender differences influence the accuracy of impoliteness. The result showed that male was often speak impolite than female, although female speak impolite too, but the frequency rates of the types of strategies and variation output deployed by male and female show differences. In addition, the researcher also found five strategies there are euphemism, dysphemism, epithet, racism, and associate use physical resemblance.
