Abstract
This research has two objectives, (1) describe the ability of the students of class VIIA SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Blora in preparing narrative essay, seen from the use of paragraph coherence tool, (2) exposing the misuse of the use of paragraph coherence tool used by grade VIIA SMP muhammadiyah 1 Blora compose narrative essay. This type of research is qualitative research, with case study design study evaluation. Data collection techniques used are complete participant observation techniques, tests or assignments, and documentation. The data have been collected, analyzed by the method of agih, and tested its validity with triangulation theory. The results of the study found 36 coherent means of use appropriately, ie 3 additives, 2 series, 5 pronouns, 1 synonym, 2 reps, 3 class members, 1 emphasis, 1 sampling, 1 time, 3 causation, 1 Reasons, 3 amplicative, 4 time additives, 2 generic-specific, and 4 informative means. In addition to the appropriate use of coherence means, there are 39 misuse uses of paragraph coherence means, 6 misuse of additive means, 11 pronouns, 11 reps, 1 contrast, 2 alignments, 3 place locations, 2 time periods, 1 time additive, and 2 logic sentence. The result of this research can be concluded that the students of grade VIIA SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Blora are quite able to compose the article of narration coherently, as evidenced by the acquisition of an average value of 60.
