Abstract

The development of education is getting better, making the level of educational competition getting higher as the Islamic schools are getting better. Thus, the challenge facing the principal in the lead is increasingly severe. The writer in this research will discuss about principal leadership strategy in maintaining the quality and implication to the implementation of Islamic religious education. The purpose of the authors in this study is to determine the efforts made by the head of sekoah in maintaining the quality of schools and its Implications Against the implementation of Islamic religious education in schools. This research is field research with qualitative research type. So the authors will go directly to the field to get data in the form of phenomena, perceptions of people, events, and social activities by way of interviews, observation and documentation. Then this research uses triagulation with steps: (1) data reduction (2) data presentation (3) withdrawal of conclusion. Based on the data analysis, the principal's strategy in maintaining the quality of the school is to conduct monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up on a regular basis, then maintaining superior programs, and maintaining communication among school members. Implementation of Islamic education in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta runs well with full support from the principal in the form of excellent programs, as well as religious education serve as the foundation in developing character education in schools.
