Abstract

Infants’ gross motor development is important to notice. It possibly causes negative impacts for the infants such as movement disorder, emotion and intelligence development issues. There are factors influencing the infants growth, one of them is nutrition and parenting factor. The research objectives are to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding status and gross motor skill development in 7-12 month infants, to determine the relationship between parenting and gross motor development in 7-12 month infants. This research is a observational research and uses crossectional approach. The source of data was 126 mothers of 7-12 month infants. The data of the research was consisted of exclusive breastfeeding status, parenting and gross motor development. This research used questionnaire as the technique of collecting data. This research used Chi-Square correlation to analyze the data. The result of the research indicated that 79.4% infants were non-exclusive breastfeeding, 57.9% were lack-parenting, and 65.1% were having optimal gross motor development. Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square indicated that exclusive breastfeeding and gross motor development pvalue = 1000 (p > 0.05), parenting and gross motor development pvalue = 0.205 (p > 0.05). The result of the research did not find the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding status and parenting toward gross motor development of 7-12 month infants in Baki Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency.
