Abstract

Background: Clinical practice is a method of learning so that students have good clinical skills, and increase knowledge and attitude in nursing care to patients. The ability of academic competence and skill to be the capital to carry out the practice of nursing clinics well, but in fact clinical practice is not always according to student expectations, this is due to the emergence of anxiety during clinical practice. The purpose of this study is to know the relationship between academic competence and skill with students' anxiety when facing the practice of mental nursing clinic in mental hospital. Methods: This research type is quantitative research with approach of research use cross sectional. The sample of research of nursing graduate student of VIII semester that is practicing clinic at soul hospital is 82 students with sampling technique using total sampling. Instrument of academic competence and skill is a check of OSCA Values of soul nursing and anxiety assessment using DASS 42 questionnaire. Data analysis using Rank Spearman test. Results: of research known to 78 respondents (95.1%) have competence and skill, and 4 respondents (4.9%) are not academically competent and skill. As many as 50 respondents (61%) did not experience anxiety, 19 respondents (23.2%) experienced mild anxiety, and 13 respondents (15.9%) experienced moderate anxiety. Result of Rank Spearman test analysis obtained p value = 0,001 (p <0,05). Conclusion: there is a correlation between student academic competency with level of anxiety when doing client clinical nursing clinic.
