Abstract

The gaming industry in Indonesia, experienced a significant increase every year. This increase is attracting the attention of consumers of online game players especially teenagers. This triggered the onset of addictive behaviors and negative impact adversely. The role of the social environment are expected to do a good control. The main goal of this research is to understand and describe (1) online gaming addiction experienced by adolescents; (2) the social environment of adolescents; and (3) the role of social control in the process of Islamic education facing online gaming addiction on adolescents. This research is focused on the teenage high school students grade 11. This research uses qualitative phenomenological approach method. A number of informants 10 people consists of (1) 3 Teens online gaming addicts (the intensity of playing games online more than 14 hours a week); (2) 3 parents of students who are addicted to online games; (3) 1 homeroom teacher supporting informant; and (4) the informant of the 3 closest peers. Method of data collection is a semi structured interview. While the method of data analysis using inductive data descriptive analysis. The results showed that online gaming addiction experienced by teenagers started providing gaming device since a young age (CA. 5-9). The reason informants like online game 1) interesting and addictive, making 2) add friends and advantage, 3) display the image of interest. The intensity of the time average ± 25 hours/week. Social environment plays an active role in social control. The role of social control in the process of Islamic education to deal with online gaming addiction on adolescents with parental way, 1); give advice and understanding to learn responsible for regulating time, accepting the consequences of every thing is done, time constraints and the accompanying online gaming, reminded all the time of prayer, study, eat, and hang out with the family 2) homeroom; communicate actively with pupils and parents 3) close friends; remind to further limit the time playing online games. The social environment of adolescents should pay attention, supervision and direction of depth on teen addicts online gaming, and the adolescents can set time to do activities that are more helpful.
