Abstract

Violent between students happening in school level. The violence is physically and verbally gained from a playmate. Bullying can break the victim's social relationships with others such as neglect, self-esteem prisoning, and isolation. One of the determinants in the self-control of victims of bullying is being positive. This positive attitude needs to be owned by the victims of bullying in order to survive in the face of difficulties later. This positive attitude shows the same meaning as optimism. This study aims to understand and describe the optimism of students bullying victims. The method of this research is qualitative with content analysis. Informants in this research are 6 students who become victims of bullying in SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta based on BK school teacher record. Selection of informants by using purposive sampling technique. Based on the interview results, all students of bullying victims have optimism. The result of the research is the act of bullying received by all subjects made as a motivation, easiness to show achievement, and the past become lesson, and will continue to reach the goal by going forward without looking back. The subject is sure to have a successful and bright future, if you want to try, learn, enterprising, self-study, optimistic, not persistent, positive thinking, and confident to realize all dreams. The subject has a belief in achieving it, ignoring the opinion of the other person, trying to show good results to people around, and will be realized if you want to try, although there are still obstacles such as lack of support from parents and censure friends. Factors that influence optimism in bullying students include internal factors such as thinking, self-control, desires and beliefs, and religion. In addition, external factors of social support.
