Abstract

N-butyl methacrylate plant from methacrylate acid and butanol with capacity 10,000 tons/year is designed to build in Industrial Estate Cilegon, Banten, around 2021. The forms of n-butyl methacrylate is an exothermic process and will be operated using continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The operating condition is adjusted at temperature 90˚C and pressure 1 atm. The synthesis process needs 560.48 kg/hour of methacrylate acid, 885.87 kg/hour of butanol, 29.17 kg/hour of sulfate acid, and 22.03 kg/hour of sodium hydroxide as raw materials. The synthesis process produced 1,261.34 kg/hour of n-butyl methacrylate. To support this process, the utility takes 30,581.26 kg/hour of water from Cidanau River, and 1,636.68 kg/hour of steam. It also takes 120m3/hour of compressed air and 224.40kW electrical needs from generator and PLN. N-butyl methacrylate plant will be operated around 330 day/year by 120 employees. Fixed capital required to Rp119,564,261,568.00 and working capital Rp8,926,231,845.00 per year. Profit after tax is required to Rp13,724,985,184.00 per year. The Return on Investment (ROI) before taxes is 16.40%, and 11.48% after tax. Pay Out Time (POT) before taxes 3.79 years and 4.66 years after tax. Break Even Point (BEP) is 53.14%, Shut Down Point (SDP) is 21.91% and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 19.1%. From the feasibility study by calculations of ROI, POT, BEP, SDP, and IRR it can be concluded that n-butyl methacrylate plant deserves to be build.
