Abstract

The objectives of this study are to describe: (1) the form of the interrogative sentences are applied in Deception Point novel, (2) the type of translation, and (3) the equivalence message between source language and target language. The writer uses the descriptive qualitative research. By using this study, the writer uses Deception Point novel as the data source, while the data are interrogative sentences which are taken from Deception Point novel. The methods of collecting data are document and observation while the technique for analyzing data is comparing method. The results of this research show that: (1) there are three types of interrogative sentences, namely 81 data or 31.2% belong to positive question; 10 data or 3.8% are to negative question; 11 data are taq question; 59 data or 22.7% are interrogative pronoun and 61 data belong to interrogative question with interrogative adverb; (2) the type of translation in this research are 19 data belong to word-for-word translation, literal translation (162 data or 62.3%); there are 49 data belong to dynamic translation; 27 data belong to pragmatic translation, communicative translation (2 data or 0.4%), and 1 datum idiomatic translation. (3) there are 9 data are not equivalent, while the equivalent data are 251 or 96.5 %.
