Abstract

Natural dyes are dyes derived from plants or animal. One of the plants that can be used as natural dyes is the skin of purple sweet potato. Purple sweet potato skin contains anthocyanin pigments is greater than the meat. The purpose of this study is to investigate the quality of the preparations of mitotic Allium cepa use dye purple sweet potato peel extract with a variety of solvents and long staining. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) with two treatment factors are the type of solvent (aquadest and citric acid 14%) and long staining (1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours) and safranin as a comparison. Making preparations for mitosis using squash. The results were analyzed with descriptive qualitative method that includes color contrast and clarity preparations. Based on the analysis of research, old coloring effect on the binding of color, so that the contrast of color and clarity of the different preparations in accordance with the old coloring is done. Quality ofmitosis preparations Allium cepa using dye purple sweet potato peel extract to solvent of aquadest and citric acid are both shown good results with the old coloring 1 hour and 2 hours. Old coloring preparations mitosis Allium cepa can affect the clarity of preparation. Staining for 3 hours produces less color contrast, preparations produced is also less clear.
