Abstract
One effort to increase the bearing capacity of the soil is by using soil reinforcement. The retrofitting of sand columns used on footprints as vertical drainage is a solution to increase the bearing capacity of the soil. This research was carried out six laboratory tests consist of two non sand column test and four test using circular sand columns with diameter of sand columns 100 mm and 150 mm and diameter of circular palm base with diameter 100 mm and 150 mm in clay by maintaining Moisture content and compaction method. From all tests it can be concluded that the bearing capacity value by increasing the diameter of the sand column is greater than the diameter of the footprint diameter.
