Abstract
Background: Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement that compares weight to height. BMI is one of the factors that affect the value of vital lung capacity. Overweight is a major risk factor for the onset of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease. In addition to overweight, someone who is underweight often affected by health problems. As a result of malnutrition of the body susceptible to viral infections and can affect lung function. Objective: To determine the relationship between BMI with lung vital capacity Method: This research used in this study was analytical observational with cross sectional method. Respondents in this study as many as 78 people. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Product Moment correlation test / Pearson. Results: The data normality test results Vital Capacity in overweight and normal groups obtained p-value of 0.200. As for the Forced Vital Capacity, the overweight group values obtained p-value as much as 0.094 and the normal group p value as much as 0.200. The results of the data distribution tersebuat normal so do parametric tests such as Pearson correlation test. This correlation test results obtained sig p-value above 0.05 all, it was concluded that there was no correlation between body mass index with Vital Lung Capacity. Conclusion: There is no correlation between body mass index with Vital Capacity (VC) and Forced Vital Capacity (FVC).
