Abstract
Pre-design factory of benzoic acid by the process of oxidation of toluene with a capacity of 45,000 tons/year it aims to meet the needs of benzoic acid in Indonesia. Reaction formation of benzoic acid from toluene oxidation with oxygen through a process that comes from the air and with the help of an cobalt acetate catalyst produces benzoic acid, residual oxygen, nitrogen, water and benzaldehyde. This reaction takes place in a gas-liquid phase in reactor-bubble (bubble column reactor) that works continuously on a operating conditions temperature 150 ⁰ C, 3 atm pressure, conversion reaction yield 50%, 90%, an exothermic, isothermal and non adiabatic. The factory was established in the planned benzoic acid area of Tuban, East Java. The selection is based on the provision of utilities and means of supporting in the area. Raw materials required as much toluene 8,573.88 kg/h, with an air of 19,488.29 kg/h and an cobalt acetate catalyst as much 10.83 kg/h will produce benzoic acid as much as 5,681.82 kg/h. The main tools used in the process of formation of benzoic acid is centrifugal decanter, reactor-bubble, distillation towers, crystalizer, filter, evaporator, and rotary dryer. While the process of supporting units, among others, the provision of the steam units, procurement and water treatment facilities, power plants, fuel procurement, providers of compressed air and waste treatment. The unit's water supply is obtained from the Bengawan Solo river and the hydroelectric unit retrieved from PLN and generator sets. The company is the shape of a limited liability company (PT) with a system of employee based on Division of Labor which consists of employees of the shift and non-shift. Fixed capital or fixed capital investments (FCI) used to establish the factory is Rp 247,259,937,057 with working capital or working capital (WC) amounting to Rp 22,617,794,048. The economic analysis showed that the profit after tax of Rp 72,887,402,310 per year, after the tax cut 25% profit reached Rp 54,665,551,733 per year. Return on investment (ROI) 29.48% before tax and after-tax 22,11%. Pay out time (POT) before tax and after tax year 2.53 3.11 years. The condition of the break event point (BEP) on the value of 49.9% production capacity, while shut down point (SDP) of 24.5%. Discounted cash flow (DCF) in the design of 32,73%. From the data analysis of the feasibility of the above it was concluded that the plant is profitable and viable to set up. Keywords: Toluene, Benzoic acid, Cobalt Acetate, Bubble Reactor
