Abstract

This research discusses the process of compounding on the words in the windows program. This research is aimed at answering two problem statements, namely: what are the types of compounding words and what are their meanings. The objectives of the research are to describe the types of compounding, and to explain the meaning of the compounding. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data are taken from the Windows XP program. The writer uses document and observation method to collect the data. In analyzing the forms of compound words, the writer uses morphology analysis especially compounding analysis. The writer analyses the words based on the elements of compound words. In analyzing the meaning, the steps are: determining the literal meaning and classifying the meaning into opaque and transparent meaning. Based on the data analysis, the writer finds the form of compounding used in windows XP program register consist of three types of compounding, namely: compound noun, compound verb, and compound adjective. The most compound meaning used in windows XP program register are transparent meaning and the rest is opaque meaning.
