Abstract
Breast cancer is one of leading cause of cancer death in women around the world. One of the strategy to prevent breast cancer based on cytotoxic agent by natural products are now being developed. Beluntas (Pluchea indica L.), Ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) and Kenikir (Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) are the potential plants for being developed as cytotoxic agent. This study aimed to know cytotoxic effect of beluntas, ciplukan and kenikir leaves ethanolic extract on T47D breast cancer cell and to know classes of the compound that contain in extracts. The extracts are tested its cytotoxic effect on T47D cancer cells using MTT assay.MTT assay is based on the formation of formazan crystal because the reduction of salt MTT by enzyme succinate dehydrogenase. Its occurs in respiration pathway of mitochondrial living cell. This research shows that ciplukan leaves ethanolic extract had cytotoxic effect on T47D cancer cell with IC50 176,6 µg/mL and beluntas and kenikir leaves ethanolic extract had cytotoxic effect on T47D cancer cell with IC50 >200 µg/mL. From this research can be concluded that beluntas, ciplukan and kenikir leaves ethanolic extract had less potential effect on T47D cells. The result shows that beluntas leaves ethanolic extract, ciplukan leaves ethanolic extract and kenikir leaves ethanolic extract contain of tanin and flavonoid.
