Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the optimum variation of the cyclone height and number in the drying process of flour. The variation of cyclone height used are 1 meter, 2 meters, and 3 meters. Meanwhile the variation of cyclone number used are 1 cyclone and 2 cyclones. In a flash dryer, the wet flour mass is put into the screw conveyor then it is dissolved by hammer mill while streamed by hot air stream which is pushed by a blower so that the mass becomes dry and by using cyclone separator, the dry flour is separated from the hot air stream. This research show that the variation of the cyclone height and number affect the quality of drying outcome. The higher cyclone the flour the higher level of dryness. The optimum outcome is reached by applying 2 cyclones 3 meters in height.
