Abstract
This study elaborates the coping behavior of Julianne in P.J. Hogan’s My Best Friend’s Wedding based on an individual psychological approach. The writer focuses on the coping behavior. The analysis is done by using an individual psychological approach. After analyzing this film, the writer finds the reason of coping behavior. This study belongs to qualitative study. In the method, there are two types of data sources, which are used by the writer, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source and the object are the film of the P.J. Hogan’s My Best Friend’s Wedding itself; meanwhile the secondary one is other data that are related to this study. The writer collects the data from both, primary and secondary data sources in a sort of document as evidence. The study uses library research to collect the data. The collected data are analyzed by means of descriptive analysis. In analyzing the data, she applies two approaches. Firstly, structural approach is used to analyze the structural elements of the film. It consists of character and characterization, plot, setting point of view, theme, and casting. Secondly, the individual psychological approach is used to analyze the coping behavior of Julianne Potter in realizing her true feelings. The writer finds that the character of Julianne Potter has some ways to realize her true feelings that will influence the psychological development of the major character. In this film, Julianne Potter as the major character has behavior for realizing her true feelings which reinforces her psychological development.
