Abstract

Background :Anemia is a condition in which hemoglobin level in the blood is below the normal level based on the gender and age group. The teenagers is the group of age which have the highest risk posibility of anemia. Female teenagers need more iron to replace the iron last during menstruation. The prevalence of anemia level at SMK 1 Sukoharjo in 2014 was considered high (34%). Micro nutrients and Macro nutrients such as protein, vitamin C and folic acid play an important role in the development process of hemoglobin. Objective : The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between protein intake, vitamin C intake, folic acid intake and hemoglobin level on female teenagers at SMK N 1 Sukoharjo. Method :The research method was cross sectional with 69 subjects who were taken using proportional random sampling from all students of grade XI who met the criteria of inclusive and exclusive.Data of nutritional intake were obtained by interview using SQ-FFQ formula, while data of hemoglobin level were obtained by using HemoCue. Data were analysed with the correlation of Spearman and Pearson Product Moment. Results : Subjets who suffering from anemia were 40,6%. The rate of protein intake and Vitamin C intake of the subjects were good (≥ AKG) that was 53,6% protein, and 50,7% Vitamin C. Furthermore, the folic acid intake of the subjects was considered low (<AKG) that was 95,7%. The bivariat results showed that the ρ-value of protein intake with hemoglobin level was 0,018, the ρ-value of vitamin C intake with hemoglobin level was 0,388, and the ρ-value of folic acid intake with hemoglobin level was 0,778. Conclusions : There was a relationship between protein intake and hemoglobin level. There was no relationship between vitamin C intake , folic acid intake and hemoglobin level. Suggestions : To increase folic acid intake, it is important to conduct councelling about food product with high folic acid.
