Abstract
In this study, the writer describes the students’ mastery of vocabulary, what kinds of vocabulary mastered by the second year students of SLTP Negeri 02 Mojolaban and the difficulties faced by the students in mastering vocabulary. In this research, the researcher uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research are document and informant. The data of this research derived from the test given to the students containing multiple –choice test that consist of verb and adverb. The researcher uses test and interview to collect the data. The technique of data analysis in this research are checking the answer of the test given to the students, scoring the answer using the key answer, and the researcher uses a percentage correction technique. Based on the analysis, the researcher draws some conclusion. First, the ability students’ mastery of vocabulary verb and adverb is 66.56%. Second, there are two kinds of vocabulary. Those are 75% the students’ mastery of vocabulary usage verb and 58.12% the students’ mastery of vocabulary usage adverb. Third, there are five problems faced by the students in mastering vocabulary. The problems are the students have limited vocabulary adverbs, the students can not adjust the vocabulary usage adverb of time, difficulties to identifying predicating verb and the function, the students didn’t know the synonym of vocabulary transitive verb, and the students uncertain to choose the best answer vocabulary usage verb and adverb.
