Abstract
This study aims to determine students' reading skills improvement class I SD Negeri 3 Munggung Klaten use the media card using the media letters and illustrated stories. This study included a classroom action research model of the experiment, subjects in the study is a class V students of SD Negeri 3 Mnggung, Klaten. Data collection techniques using test engineering, documentation and wawancara.Uji instrument includes a validity test by using triangulation data.Teknik data analysis using the steps of data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Based on the results obtained during the implementation of the action research, can be explained that: the results of the reading skills of students prasiklus still low because under KKM an average grade of 62.5. In the first cycle after application of media cards and picture stories letter grade average increased to 82.7. To maximize the improvement of reading skills then executed the second cycle which produces an average grade of 87.1 exceeds the minimum completeness criteria of 70%. It can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis is acceptable and can be concluded: the application letter card media and picture books can improve reading skills of students in grade I SDN 3 Munggung.
