Abstract
This research paper is conducted to describe the errors made by the students of MTsN Tanon Sragen in 2007/2008 in making English writing. The writer wants to know the type of error, the frequencies of error, the dominant type of error, the source of error and the difficulties faced by the students in making English writing. The writer takes the students of the first year as the subject of the study. The primary data are mainly taken from test. The second data are obtained from interview with the students. In collecting data, the writer uses descriptive method that consists of test and interview. Meanwhile, the data are analyzed by using descriptive qualitative method. The result of the research is that there are 27 types of errors, for instance, Addition of –s/-es in Every Verb in Present Tense, Addition of Preposition after Subject and in Every Verb in Present Tense, Omission of –s/-es in Present Tense, the Use of Double Auxiliary, the Use of Subject Instead of Possessive Pronoun, Word Order, and so forth. She also concludes that the highest frequency of error is Addition (57,5%).The dominant type of error is Addition of Preposition After Subject and in Every Verb in Present Tense (8,5%), the source of errors are interlingual and intralingual transfer, and the difficulties faced by the students in making English writing are that they lack of vocabularies ,they do not know the English grammar, and they are poor in memorizing the English words.
