Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND CALCIUM INTAKE WITH BLOOD PRESSURE IN ISCHEMIC STROKE OUTPATIENT IN SUKOHARJO GENERAL HOSPITAL Introduction: Blood pressure can be affected by physical activity and calcium intake. Low physical activity can cause higher heart rate, resulting in an increase blood pressure when the heart contracts. Low calcium intake can affect the flexibility of blood vessels resulting in an increased of blood pressure. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship of physical activity and calcium intake and blood pressure in outpatients with ischemic stroke in Sukoharjo general hospital. Method: This research is an observational study with cross sectional method. The samples used were 30 respondents were obtained using Consecutive sampling technique. Respondent’s physical activity was obtained using Physical Activity Level (PAL), calcium intake was obtained by Semi quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and blood pressure was obtained from medical records of respondents. The data was analysed using Rank Spearman. Results: The results show that the average value of PAL physical activity was 1.51 ± 0.15 and calcium intake was 77.98 ± 27.25 mg. No relationship of systolic and diastolic blood pressure with physical activity and calcium intake was found with p-value of p = 0, 618; p = 0.073; p = 0, 538; p = 0.741 respectively. Conclusion: There are no relationship of physical activity and calcium intake with blood pressure in ischemic stroke outpatient Sukoharjo general hospital. This results suggested that other factors such as can age, genetics, gender, the intake of fat, salt intake, medication, and race also play a in increasing blood pressure.
