Abstract
The study aims to describe the structures and to reveal the meaning of the adjectival clause constructions in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. The structures involve the forms and patterns of the adjectival clauses. The form consists of functional slot and class or the slot’s filler, which has been analyzed by referring to Tagmemic Grammar. The pattern has been described based on the form. The meaning consists of role and feature of the form that has been analyzed by using Case Grammar and semantic feature theory. This is qualitative study in which the object of the research is adjectival clauses as the dependent clauses used in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales. The data are the complex sentences taken from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales The Emperor’s New Suit, The Elfin Hill and The Angel.
