Abstract
This research studies about the subtitling analysis of expressive utterance in Man in the Iron Mask movie. The objectives of the study are to determine the types of subtitling strategies of expressive utterance that are used in its subtitling and to describe the accuracy of expressive utterance in its subtitling. This research applies descriptive qualitative research. By applying this method, the researcher uses the subtitling of Man in the Iron Mask movie as the data source, while the data of the research are expressive utterances. As the comparison, there are also data taken from the manuscript in English and Indonesian. The method of collecting data is document and interviewing the viewers of the movie to get their opinion of the movie. The technique of analysis used in this study is descriptive analysis. The results of the research show that there are 51 data of expressive utterances. From 51 data of expressive utterances, the researcher finds 6 data or 11,8 % that are translated using paraphrase strategy, 20 data or 39,2 % using transfer strategy, 18 data or 35,2 % data of condensation strategy, only one datum or 2 % using taming strategy, and 6 data or 1,8 % are translated using resignation. From 51 data, the researcher also finds that there are 42 data or 82,4 % belong to accurate, while there are 9 data or 17,6 % belong to inaccurate subtitling.
