Abstract
This research paper elaborates the mood analysis of clause in 8 Mile movie manuscript using functional grammar approach. There are two questions raised in this research paper; 1) How are the language pattern in the 8 Mile movie manuscript to reveal interpersonal meaning? 2) How are the way meanings expressed by a speaker’s attitudes and judgement in 8 Mile movie manuscript? This research focuses on the Mood Analysis using Functional Grammar Approach. The data source of this research paper is 8 Mile movie manuscript. The data are the clauses (sentences viewed from Traditional Grammar) of in the 8 Mile movie manuscript. There are 30 (thirty) data taken for this research. The method of collecting the data is documentation while the technique is by sorting out the English clause. The results of the research paper are; 1) The way language pattern in the movie manuscript enabling the interpersonal meaning is by using 5 patterns of Mood Analysis (Subject^Finite; Subject^Finite^Adjunct; Finite; Finite^Subject; and Finite^Subject); 2) The way meanings are expressed are using the declarative (60%), interrogative (23%), and imperative clause (17%) which follow the mentioned Mood elements patterns.
