Abstract

Analysis of “Arguments” of English Simple Declarative Sentence in King Arthur Movie Manuscript (Syntactic Analysis Using Semantic Dimension) has two objectives, those are: (1) to explain the roles of “arguments” of English simple sentence, and (2) to identify the typical verbs which govern the pattern of occurrences of typical “arguments” in accompanying the typical verbs in King Arthur Movie Manuscript. To do these, the writer analyzes it based on the semantic formation process in Chafe 1970 of case grammar. The writer employs descriptive qualitative method. By this method, the writer uses the movie manuscript of King Arthur movie as the data source, and the data are English simple declarative sentences. The method of collection data is documenta tion while the technique is by sorting out the simple declarative sentence. Based on the analysis, the writer draws the conclusion as follows: first related to the roles of “arguments”, there are six propositional roles / cases, those are: Agent, Experienc er, Beneficiary, Patient, Complement, and Location; and two modal cases, those are: Instrument and Time. Second, related to the typical verbs, there are six verb types: basic, benefactive, experiential, locative, completable, and ambient verb. The basic verb type includes state, process, action, and action – process verb; the benefactive verb includes state benefactive, process benefactive, and action – process benefactive verb; the experiential verb includes state experiential, process experiential, and action – process experiential verb; the locative verb includes state locative, process locative, action locative, and action process locative; and completable verb includes action completable verb; and ambient verb which includes state ambient verb.
