Abstract
English conjunctions at the third semester of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Second, to describe the type of English conjunction is the most difficult to learn. by the students at the third semester of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The method used by the writer is quantitative method. The research was done on 19th December and 26th December, 2007 with 80 students at the third semester of English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta as the sample. The writer uses test to collecting the data. The test used is multiple choices. The total questions are 30 items numbers. From the result of the test, the writer obtains the data to be analyzed. Then, the data are analyzed by using a descriptive analysis. The result of this research show that: First 62.32% student’s correct answer for coordinate conjunction belong to good category, which is divided into 2 forms, they are: (a) 62.84% student’s correct answers for single-word conjunction and (b) 60.41% student’s correct answers for correlative conjunction. Second, 60.03% student’s correct answer for subordinate conjunction belong to fair category, which divided into 2 forms, they are: (a) 61.44% student’s correct answer for single-word conjunction and (b) 55.83% student’s correct answer for compound conjunction. The total of student’s correct answer for English conjunctio n is 61.16% belong to good category. It means, compound subordinate conjunction, has the smallest percentage. Second, the writer used the smallest percentage to find the type of English conjunction is the most difficult to learn. In this research, the writer found that type of the most difficult English conjunction to learn are compound subordinate conjunction of result clause and purpose clause, because those percentage is lower than others.
