Abstract

This research aims at increasing students’ ability in writing procedure text using flashcard. The specific aims of this research are to describe the implementation of flashcard in teaching writing procedure text to the third year student of SMP N 1 Sukoharjo, and the result of teaching writing procedure text using flashcard. This method is an classroom action research. It is conducted in three cycles. Every cycle consist of four steps namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting the action. The data are taken from the observation, interview, test and documents. The result of the study shows that teaching writing procedure text using flashcard can increase the student’s ability in mastering writing procedure text. The result in of the research which can be seen from the improvement increasing mean score of pre-test is 5, 4 in post test is 7, 3 and in post test 2 is 8, 4. The result both of pre-test and post-test indicate that the students have a significant improvement in writing procedure text. The students also show a positive response. They look enthusiastic, energetic, braver, and more confident to write. Besides, they become active and brave. Moreover, both the result of the students’ responses and students’ test before and after the treatments indicates that the students have improvement in achieving the English writing procedure text. Thus, it can be said that the teaching writing procedure text by using flashcard for the third year students in SMP N 1 Sukoharjo, Wonosobo is successful. Based on Analyzing the data the writer conclude that the flashcard stimulated the students to write procedure text and this medium is effective to teach writing procedure text.
