Abstract

This research paper is aimed at answer the problem of using code mixing namely, 1. The linguistic forms of English code mixing used in the song lyrics of Project Pop, and 2. The reasons for the use of Indonesian – English code mixing in the song lyrics of Project Pop. This research uses documentation methods to get the data, by browsing the song lyrics of Project Pop in the internet and note taking. The data of this research are Indonesian – English code mixing used in the song lyrics of Project Pop. To analyze the linguistic forms of code mixing the researcher uses the grammatical theory that consists of word, reduplication, phrase, idiom and clause. To analyze the frequently use of code mixing the researcher uses the mostly use of code mixing in the song lyrics of Project Pop after analyzing the linguistic forms of code mixing. To analyze the reason of code mixing the researcher uses the theory needfeeling motive and prestige-feeling motive. The result of the research shows that code mixing used in the song lyrics of Project Pop contains 17 single word consists of 4 adjective, 2 verb, 7 noun, 4 adverb, and 3 of compound word; 3 data from the insertion of reduplication; 13 data from the insertion of phrase which contains of 8 adverbial phrase, 2 noun phrase,1 prepositional phrase, 1 verb phrase, and 1 adjective phrase, 16 data from the insertion of independent clause and the researcher does not find the form of idiom from the data coding of the song lyrics of Project Pop. After analyzing and classifying the linguistic forms of code mixing that is used in the song lyrics of Project Pop, it can be concluded that the frequently used of code mixing in the song lyrics is the insertion of word. The reasons of using Indonesian - English codes mixing in the song lyrics of Project Pop are 5 need-feeling motives, 47 data for other reason (28 data to show personal speaking habits and 19 data to make more interesting), and the reason of prestige-feeling motive is not found.
