Abstract
This study aims at describing the implementation of teaching speaking using Information Gap to the second year students in SMA N I Tangen, describing the improvement of students’ speaking ability by using Information Gap, and describing the students’ response to the implementation of teaching speaking using Information Gap. The writer applies classroom action research as the type of research. The data of this research are field note, questionnaire, interview script, and the score of pre-test, and post-test. She uses observation, questionnaire, interview and test for collecting the data. The techniques of analyzing data are reducing, displaying or presenting the data and verifying the data. The results of the study shows that: 1) the action of the implementation of teaching speaking using information Gap to the second year students in SMA N I Tangen Sragen was conducted in three cycles. There were improvements of students speaking ability through Information Gap in each cycle. 2) Teaching speaking using information Gap improves the students speaking ability in SMA N I Tangen. It is indicated by the improvement of students speaking components in each cycle, and the improvement of the students’ score that average after the researcher gave the treatment. 3) The students’ responses after being taught by using Information Gap technique are good. It is indicated by the students’ answers in questionnaire. The students were confident to speak freely in the classroom.
