Abstract
This research belongs to a descriptive qualitative research. The aims of this research are to classify the translation variations of compound complex sentence and to describe the appropriateness of the Indonesian translation of compound complex sentence in The Secret Life of Bees and its translations. The data of this research paper are compound complex sentence and their translation found in novel The Secret Life of Bees consisting of 374 pages or chapter I until 14, and the researcher finds 68 data in compound complex sentences. The result of the research show that there are 15 variations of compound complex sentence namely: (1) nominal sentence is translated into adverbial sentence 5 data or 7,35%, (2) nominal sentence is translated verbal sentence, 10 data or 14,70%, (3) compound complex sentence is translated into complex sentence, 4 data or 5,88% (4) compound complex sentence is translated in to compound sentence 4 data or 5,88%, (5) compound complex sentence is translated into compound complex sentence 5 data or 7,35%, (6) verbal sentence is translate into adjectival sentence 3 data or 4,41%, (7) compound complex sentence is translated into simple sentence 3 data or 4,41%, (8) verbal sentence is translated into verbal sentence 4 data or 5,88%, (9) adverbial sentence is translated into verbal sentence 1 data or 1,47% (10) adjectival sentence is translated into verbal sentence 3 data or 4,41%, (11) nominal sentence in translated into nominal sentence 4 data or 5,88 (12) nominal sentence is translated into adjectival sentence 5 data or 7,35% (13) adjectival sentence is translated into adjectival sentence 6 data or 8,82, (14) passive sentence is translated into active sentence 8 data or 11,76% (15) verbal is translated into nominal sentence 3 data or 4,41%. There are 62 data or 91,17% data belong to the appropriate translation and there are 6 data or 8,82% belong to inappropriate translation.
