Abstract
Background: Heart disease and blood vessel, including hypertension has become a deadly disease that many people in the developed and developing countries over the last eight decades. In Indonesia , hypertension is the 3rd leading cause of death after stroke and tuberculosis. Progressive muscle relaxation is a non- pharmacologic therapy that can decrease blood pressure of hypertension. Objective: To detremine the progressive muscle relaxation exercises effect to decrease blood pressure for client with primary hypertension in Gondang. Methods : The study was a quasi experiment with one group pre test and post test design. Sample of the research is 15 individuals with age range from 34-70 years old. Sample research is taken by using purposive sampling technique. Results : After statistical test Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test available value of Z -2.669 (p-value 0.008) in systolic blood pressure and the available value of Z -1.769 (p-value 0.077) in diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion : Progressive muscle relaxation exercises effect to decrease in systolic blood pressure for client with primary hypertension, whereas diastolic blood pressure showed no different effect.
